Welcome New Director!

The Dansville Public Library Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that Margo Prak has been appointed as Library Director. She succeeds Teresa Dearing, who retired at the end of October.
Margo joins us from the Bloomfield Public Library, where she had been Director since 2019. At Bloomfield, she oversaw management of all library services, and provided technology assistance, collection development, and outreach in the small, rural community. Under her leadership, the library underwent a renovation, using NY State Aid for Library Construction, to make library space more easily accessible to all patrons and community members.
Margo holds a Master of Library Science degree from the University at Buffalo and earned a BA in English and Secondary Education from SUNY Geneseo. She began her public library career, just up the street from here, as a Clerk at the Livonia Public Library. With over five years of experience working in the Pioneer Library System, she is well equipped to manage Dansville’s participation in both the OWWL circulation system and OverDrive services.
Native to the Buffalo-area, Margo has spent the last fifteen years working and living in Livingston and Monroe Counties.  Besides her love of reading, she enjoy spending time with her family and pets, getting outdoors as much as she possibly can.
She is looking forward to getting to know the Dansville Public Library users and supporters and the opportunity to serve the Dansville community.
Congratulations to Margo in her new role and welcome to the library!

Library Open Mon-Thur ‘Til 8 PM

In July, the Board of Trustees announced that the Library would resume evening hours.  Monday through Thursday, the building is open until 8:00 p.m.  Every week the hours of service are Monday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and on Saturday 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Modifications for use of meeting rooms and reading areas may be necessary as we respond to new pandemic protocols this fall.  Library Staff members continue to provide pick-up service upon request.  Those unvaccinated are required to wear a mask, and the Library has masks if you forget to bring one.  Social distancing is still recommended.  For questions or for more information, please call us at 585-335-6720.

Summer Reading Is for Kids!

Ms. Mary Ellen announces the start of Summer Reading with the theme Tales and Tails.

During the summer, all Summer Reading participants will be asked to stop in for their Grab and Go Bag.  Please watch our Facebook page and the website for dates and times.  Special programs will be offered as well.  Registration to attend may be required.

Social distancing and masking is required for anyone unvaccinated.  Bags will be available on the Library lawn each time and the bags contain 2 weeks of activities, a craft and a suggested reading list.  Please call the Library at 585-335-6720 for more information.

Vaccinated? You May Remove It!

Dansville Public Library is moving steadily toward regular operations.  Beginning this month, any visitor who has been fully vaccinated may enter without a mask.

However, many visitors will continue masking depending on their individual choices and personal situations.  Masks are always welcome.  Masks will assist in protecting our youngest visitors who remain unvaccinated at this time.    If you prefer to continue telephoning with your requests and to continue using our pick up service, we welcome you to do so.  In addition, home delivery is available.

Hand sanitizers will be available at the main entrance and at other points throughout the building.  Social distancing will continue as you wait at the front desk to check out or for assistance, are seated at any table to read magazines or books, meet with a friend, or simply take time to relax and enjoy your return to our Library.

Plans are underway as we move toward our regular service hours which will include hours after 5:00 p.m.  It is expected these will resume mid-July.  Currently the Library is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event offers free reading programs that include games, crafts and activities targeted for children in Kindergarten to Sixth grade. These programs give children the opportunity to experience the fabulous resources of their public library.

Our aim is to give children the books they love and introduce them to others they may not have read. Our “Tails & Tales” theme will have your students reading through the summer, thus maintaining and enhancing
their reading skills. Kids who read, succeed!

This program is entirely free to the public, and our kick off is on Saturday June 19 at 10 am – NOON at the Dansville Public Library.

Children who participate will enjoy a closing celebration at the end of the program and will receive special certificates noting their accomplishment. Please fill out the form below to register.

This registration form can be filled out at the clerks desk at the Library.
Summer Reading Program can be done Virtually or by Grab and Go bags. If you choice to just read and record minutes that is ok, a form will be on our website to fill out reading minutes each week.
