Library Open — Hours 10 -5 Mon-Fri

Dansville Public Library is now open for business.

Visitors can enter at the Main Entrance.  You must wear a mask.  You must sanitize your hands upon entry.  You must maintain social distancing.  With these cautions, you are welcome to browse the shelves, request help in finding materials or placing materials on hold.  You can sign up to use a computer.

You can continue to call and place requests and holds; if you prefer pick up service, or home delivery, let us know.  Library Staff members want to serve YOUR needs, whatever those might be.  You may still call to schedule computer time, or stop in to see if one is available for use.  WiFi is always available for your device.   Limit your visit to one hour.

The number of people allowed in the Shepard Children’s Library is more limited due to closeness.  No seating is available in the Children’s area.  We ask that every child be accompanied by an adult.

If you have any questions, please call us.  Your Library is here to help you!  Call us at 585-335-6720.

Public Welcome – by Appointment

Dansville Public Library is gradually re-opening to visitors.  Access to the Library and its collections is now available by appointment.  Many readers can enjoy coming inside to browse and make their own reading selections.  The main doors remain locked, and visitors need to call the Library for access as modified services continue to be observed.

Restrictions are in place.  Face masks are required, and there are hand sanitizing stations throughout the building.  Visitors will be encouraged to sanitize their hands before accessing the collection areas.  All visits are limited to one hour or under.  Everyone must observe social distancing, and directional arrows are placed to guide users on a preferred path of “travel” inside the building.  The small meeting rooms are available for individuals or one person plus one family member or regular “social companion.”

Library Staff members will continue to offer drive up pick up service for those who are practicing more restrictive distancing.  Home delivery is also available; just call the Library at 585-335-6720 to arrange this service.

Use of computers is allowed by appointment.  Newspapers and magazines are available for reading, but only one person per table.  FAX and copying services are also available.  Users are reminded copies are 15 cents per page and FAXes are $1.00 per page.

Occupancy in the children’s area will be more tightly controlled due to limited space and a need to maintain social distancing.  Our littlest readers may have more difficulty in maintaining distance from friends from whom they have been separated for several months.   Again, families are reminded, time in the children’s room  will be limited due to surface sanitizing requirements.

Areas occupied by the public will undergo regular sanitizing following visits.  Computers stations are carefully sanitized after each user.  Copy and FAXing service will be completed by staff members.  Small meeting rooms will also undergo a cleaning regime between visitors.  Restrooms are off limits during this period of modified services.   NO DONATIONS are being accepted.

For questions about access and re-opening guidelines, please call Library Director Terry Dearing at 585-335-6720.

Coming Soon — Access by Appointment

Dansville Public Library Staff members have been  working steadily to provide books, movies, paperbacks, magazines — materials of ALL kinds.  Staff take your requests by whatever method works for you — telephone, email and list-in-the-book-drop.  Please stay in touch with us, and we will do the best we can while we wait for permission to borrow from other libraries in our System.  We want to assure you soon, very soon, the Library will allow appointments for in-house use of the collection, the computers, and the children’s materials in the very near future.  We will announce the start of these services as soon as we have everything prepared and modified.

In the meantime, for  suggestions of new items to borrow, go to the center of the homepage under “Re-Open Plans” and click on the new arrivals link at the bottom of that center column for the link listed here:

We are answering requests for materials Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Call us at 585-335-6720.  We will schedule a time for you to pick up your materials.  You can also place your own holds on Dansville owned items using your card number at

A special note:  due to the nature of COVID-19, you may not want to enter the Library any time soon — our Staff will continue  pick up service at your convenience.  Or, let us know if you need delivery of materials, and we will arrange that service as well.  We are still your Library, we are still here for you, and we want to make sure you have what you need from your Library in whatever way you feel is safest and more convenient for YOU!  Give us a call!
