A Friend of the Library donated additional funds which brought the total income for this year’s Dogwood Week Annual Used Book Sale to $3500. "I like even numbers," she told library staff several days after the sale ended. The Used Book Sale begins the Monday after Mother’s Day. This year was the 39th year.

The Library’s Dogwood Week 39th Annual Used Book Sale saw a total income of $3466.80, an increase of $784 over sales in 2013. Many visitors commented on the great selection available. More than 50 volunteers assisted with sorting, set up and sales during the week-long event. The Sale begins on the Monday following Mother’s Day each year.

The works of Neva Smith are now featured in the Holden Gallery for the month of April. Neva began painting in the 1950s and belonged to the Dansville Art Club whose membership included Louise Jones, Joyce Weidman, and Nora Wells. She painted in oils, acrylics, water color and even did some "tole" work. Privately owned paintings can be found at the Library and the Dansville Area Historical Society. This collection is organized by, and on loan from, Neva92s granddaughter Julie Guzzardi. Mrs. Smith died in 1979.

She will deliver those important Valentines YOU have been filling out for a couple weeks, but it is from YOU, the library user, our legislators really want to hear. Artist Roger Kornbau is back in the Holden Gallery for the month of February. This exhibit is unique and features many works you probably have never seen before as most of the works are privately owned. Roger’s inspiration comes from the people and the world around him. Stop in soon, sign his guestbook, and take a moment to comment or reflect on his vision. Stop in early and you might find Roger "in house". He would be pleased to give you a tour of the exhibit, and you will learn more about the history of each creation.

Check out the newest exhibit in the Holden Gallery, on loan from Nicole Alioto. Nicole’s work reflects her interest in abstract & pop art. Her creations are adventurous, unique, & thought provoking. She prefers acrylic & mixed media, finding her initial inspiration from her mother, also a self-taught artist. Nicole grew up in New Jersey, received a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Connecticut. Stop in, enjoy and sign the guest book soon!

Come with your children to visit Santa and Mrs. Claus at the Library on Saturday December 14 at 1 p.m.! There will be stories, songs, crafts and treats! Enjoy the season with us at this annual event!

The Library’s newest "artist in residence" is Peggy Preston of Mayville, NY. Peggy grew up in Westfield, NY and began her painting career in high school. Her works have been exhibited at Chautauqua Institution and other galleries. She has donated her works to Westfield Memorial Hospital during fundraising campaigns. Peggy works in acrylics and oils, using her family & the beauty of the scenery around her as her inspirations. She is the owner of "Pearled Reflection Gallery" in Mayville which is located on Chautauqua Lake. Stop in soon to see her creations!
