The Friends of the Library are hosting Julie Brocklehurst-Woods who will present a program on creative gardening with seeds or plants on Wednesday March 8 at 6:30 p.m. Free and open to the public.

Library Director Teresa Dearing reports a busy time as the spring season approaches. Children and visitors will celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday on March 2, from 3-5 p.m. with crafts, games and stories. Then on March 4, any adult can bring their youngster to the Children’s Tea Party on Saturday, March 4 from 1-3 p.m. This is a ticketed event with a suggested donation of $3; “scholarships” are available if needed.
Finally, gardeners are urged to attend “Tips For Growing Great Plants” on Wednesday March 8 at 6:30 p.m. Master Gardener Julie Brocklehurst- Wood will inform and advise those in attendance on how to get the most from the garden with seeds or plants.
Brandy Finocchario also reminds families of the next Family Movie Nights, February 28 and March 14 at 5:30 p.m. with pizza and a movie. For more information on any event, call the Library at 585-335-6720.

The Friends of the Dansville Public Library will hold a re-organizational meeting on Thursday evening, February 2 at 6:30 p.m. The Friends are looking for new ideas and asking for help in planning for the Library’s future. If you have any questions, please call Teresa Dearing, 585-335-6720.

Dansville Public Library will celebrate the annual event, “Take Your Child to the Library Day” on Saturday, February 4, 2017 from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.
The Library provides a special opportunity for children to register for a library card, participate in crafts, and enjoy a few refreshments with family members.
Dansville Public Library is a member of Pioneer Library System, and the collections of 42 libraries are available to registered users in the Pioneer System.

Photographer John Adamski will present a photo tour of both American and Canadian Rockies on Tuesday, January 24th at 6:30 p.m. John is a writer and photographer for several publications including Life in the Finger Lakes, NY Conservationist and Livingston County News. His photographs are well known, and this travelogue promises to be a magnificent event. Sponsored by the Friends of the Library, it is open to the public free of charge.

The Friends of the Dansville Public Library experienced another successful raffle with a drawing of 5 winners on December 21. Winner of the vintage afghan was Sherrie Reilly, additional quilts to Marian Crawford and Cathy Fedorchuk, walking stick and Finger Lakes books to Linda Hoose, and the Christmas fun basket to Linda Henry. The monies collected from the raffle will go toward the new, mobile friendly website set to be unveiled in the new year. On October 25th at 6:30 p.m., Liz Thompson of "Batphile" will present a special program in time for Halloween. Bats are flying mammals, and they aren’t as frightening as it might seem. Night creatures, they do much to control insect populations, and myths about them have contributed to scary stories told around a campfire. Learn the truth about these unique creatures, and bring your questions with you. This program is free and open to the public.

Ms. Brandy Olsheski has announced the start of the Fall Story Time programs at the Library. Ages 3 and up can register for 10 a.m. Wed "Read & Play" story time. Littlest new readers ages 6 months and up can register for "Baby’s Book Buddies" on Thurs at 10 a.m. The programs run until December 15. These Early Literacy Programs will help prepare your child for school, and bring them the love of stories and reading too. Ms. Brandy can assure you that great readers are ready for success! The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the Dansville Lions Club recently completed its pledge to the "Where Knowledge Grows" building expansion project. The funding includes the Lions’ sponsorship of the children’s "Lions Discovery Workshops" held every summer. Director Terry Dearing accepted the final five-year pledge payment of $5000, closing out the $25,000 commitment. Incoming Lions President Mike Cloonan arrived at the Library with check in hand accompanied by fellow Lions Club member, Barry Haywood.

Summer Reading Club and the Lions Discovery Workshops are keeping children reading and involved at Dansville Public Library. Summer Reading Club began on June 26. Space is still available for those children who have yet to register. A few openings are still available in the Hip Hop Dance Workshop beginning August 8 for ages 8 and up.
