Lions Club Completes Its Promise to DPL Campaign

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the Dansville Lions Club recently completed its pledge to the "Where Knowledge Grows" building expansion project. The funding includes the Lions’ sponsorship of the children’s "Lions Discovery Workshops" held every summer. Director Terry Dearing accepted the final five-year pledge payment of $5000, closing out the $25,000 commitment. Incoming Lions President Mike Cloonan arrived at the Library with check in hand accompanied by fellow Lions Club member, Barry Haywood.

Annual Used Book Sale Records Receipts

"The Annual Dogwood Week Used Book Sale was a resounding success," stated Director Terry Dearing. Income from the sale held the week of May 9, 2016 totaled $3707.60, an increase of $220 over 2015. The Library attributes the additional funds to excellent donations of adult nonfiction books, always in high demand. The sale is possible due to the assistance of more than 50 volunteers as well as the thoughtful donations from the community.

Fairy Houses Workshop Ahead

A special workshop for children ages 5 to 13 will be offered on Saturday, May 28th from 1-3 p.m.. Children will learn how to design magical "fairy house" dwellings by using a variety of natural materials. Spring is the ideal time to harvest craft materials from the outdoors and to add various craft items on hand to create these delightful homes for display. Come celebrate with us as Karen Cowley begins her retirement from the Library Friday afternoon April 29. Karen joined the Library Staff on September 27, 2005. After 10 years of excellent service to the Dansville community, we wish her all the best in this new phase of her life. Refreshments will be available 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Kids Crafts on Making Spaghetti Bridges

Join us for some awesome building on Saturday, March 26th from 1-3 p.m. Children will explore the field of engineering by making bridges using marshmallows and spaghetti as their primary building material. They will create different shapes and make a model bridge that can hold a surprising amount of weight. For children ages 6-12. Space is limited for this program. New Artist In Holden Gallery For January

Taylor Rapp is the new artist in the Holden Gallery for this month. Now a college student at Cazenovia, Taylor is majoring in Visual Communications, and her interest in digital and graphic design is growing. Come in to see this artist’s work. Fence Challenge Giving Continues

The Board of Trustees, Friends Executive Board, and the Library Staff warmly express their thank yous to all donors for gifts to the Friends of the Library Fence Challenge. Though the Challenge officially ended on December 23, a number of donations have continued to come in. "The community support has been so heartwarming," stated Friends President Jamie Blum. "This beautiful library with the Shepard Memorial building listed on the National Register of Historic Place is clearly beloved by the whole community." The total amount raised has reached $15,632.50.
