Boom Boom Literacy Party Nov 23

The Library invites our newest readers to our Boom Boom Literacy Party with Ms. Mary Ellen on Saturday November 23 at 10:30 a.m..  Preschoolers are the focus of this early literacy event.  Child enrolled in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program can explore new books and special activities.  Older siblings are welcome to attend.  Books used in this program can be counted for the 1000 Books B4K  reading list credit.  For more information please call 585-335-6720.

Makerspace Tuesdays Begin Oct 15

Beginning Tuesday October 15, Ms Mary Ellen will offer weekly Sensory Makerspace experiences to our youngest visitors.  Children ages 3 to 5 years can attend from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.  Ages 6- 8 are “booked” for this creative event 4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Your child can enjoy creating a variety of projects that explore STEAM concepts:  science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics.  Learning is always fun with Makerspace.

Virtual Reality Oct 14

Mary Ellen Arena presents an opportunity for children to drop in at the Library on Columbus Day,  October 14, to experience “virtual reality” between 11 and 4 p.m.  Ms Mary Ellen is reserving preferential time by appointment for 2nd to 7th graders.  Please call the Library at 585-335-6720 to schedule your time.

By using this headset with special optics, Oculus Go brings experiences to life in rich detail and vibrant color.  With downloadable applications, viewers can enter a personal “space” in which to play games, watch videos, tour a museum, drive a race car, and many other experiences.

Meet the Authors! Sep 28

On Saturday, September 28 at 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., seven local authors will be on hand to talk about their books, writing, and to answer your questions.  Authors are Katelyn Costello, Jim Fantauzzo, David Gilbert, Aaron Lazar, Lee Marcus, Bob Sells and Kay Thomas.  Refreshments will be served.  Books will be available for purchase and signing.  For more information call the Library at 585-335-6720.  This program is sponsored by The Friends of the Dansville Public Library.  [NOTE: Though originally scheduled, author Gus Kenney will not be available for this event.]

Button Making Sep 14

In celebration of Library Card Sign Up Month, Ms. Mary Ellen Arena is providing a button making craft for children of all ages on Saturday September 14 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.  American Library Association in cooperation with Pixar and Disney created special bookmarks and theme items from Toy Story 4  to promote the importance of a Library Card as the #1 tool for lifelong learning.  For more information, call the Library at 585-335-6720.

Metal Magic with Jeff Swift Aug 12-16

Children ages 8-12 still have time to register for this week-long ‘Discovery Workshop’ with Jeff Swift from Swift Custom Metal. This workshop will teach children a unique method of creating a mold and casting of bismuth, a metallic element  In addition, children will learn about the history of making metal, metallurgy, and examples of art casting. They will assist with the “pour” of the metal into their very own mold right here, on the library’s lawn!  This program is sponsored by the Dansville Lions Club. Space is limited!
